It was around two months ago when Dell announced the Nickelodeon edition of the Inspiron mini.

This netbook is obviously targeted at kids and will feature various Nickelodeon themes including green slime and spongebob.  The biggest competitor would be the team of Asus and Disney with their Disney Netpal also targeted at kids.

Pretty average netbook features on the Dell Mini Nickelodeon:

  • Intel Atom N270 / N280 CPU
  • 10.1-inch LCD
  • 1024×600 resolution
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 160GB hard drive

The Dell Mini Nickelodeon is now available on the Dell website and starts at $329.  Should be a real hit with kids who make up a significant part of the market these days.

Here are some of the key features of this netbook:

  • 11.1” screen
  • 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270
  • 1GB DDR2
  • 160GB
  • 3 USB ports, VGA

It hasn’t yet hit US markets but is available in the Eastern World.

Asus in conjunction with Disney Netpal will release the new Asus Netpal Eee Netbook in July 2009. This netbook is supposedly “fun, web safe, and easy to use,” as Gizmodo puts it.

In this ever rising wifi world there are now specific netbooks for kids and this Asus has some valuable built in features with regards to parental controls.

  • 8.9 Inch LCD display screen
  • Windows XP home
  • A lot of Disney themed gadgets and themes
  • Over 40 parental controls with regards to internet and e-mail.
  • MSRP $350

Not a bad netbook option for a kids first computer.  It is easily transportable, wifi capable, a great learning machine, simple to use, and has great parental features.
